The Details

The industrial design process for the Cyberknife involved reimagining the device beyond its clinical functionality. Our team's approach was grounded in creating a design that would act as a calming force in a highly stressful medical setting. We chose soft, organic forms and integrated calming colors, departing from the traditional clinical aesthetics. The design also involved clever concealment of cables and mechanisms, contributing to a streamlined, non-intimidating appearance. The incorporation of gentle green lighting was a deliberate choice to inform patients about robot movements in a non-disruptive manner. The overall design transformed the Cyberknife from a purely functional device into a comforting presence, akin to an architectural installation, in the treatment room.
