The industrial design team faced the challenge of creating a skin that was both functional and visually appealing. Inspired by the Patlabor anime, the skin needed to convey a futuristic and sci-fi look while making the robot appear less intimidating. The design process involved exploring various visual languages and aesthetics to find the perfect balance. The final skin design successfully captured the essence of the robot's personality, making it visually striking while honoring its advanced technology. This approach not only made the robot more approachable but also turned it into a visually captivating piece of technology.
The NPI & Product phase was critical in turning the design into a tangible product. We focused on developing manufacturing and assembly techniques suitable for low-volume production, aiming to produce an initial batch of 200 units. Our team worked closely with manufacturers to ensure the design was feasible and could be produced efficiently. We utilized advanced manufacturing techniques that allowed for the precise and rapid production of the skin, ensuring that each unit met the high-quality standards required by Schaft Robotics. This efficient production strategy was key to delivering the functional skin on time and within budget, showcasing our ability to handle complex manufacturing challenges.
